Dr Roös's abstract landscape works and large-scale storyline scrolls are not mere representations but meditative mappings of ecological memory and energy, revealing the hidden patterns and ancestral wisdom encoded in Earth’s surface and biological lifeforms, they often evoke both the sacredness and fragility of place, seeking to restore the threads between people and the land, body and biosphere, spirit and place, being and belonging.

"THE UNFOLDING - Stories of the Landscape: Dr Phillip Roös at the Papermill Gallery, March 2022. This exhibition was indeed an ‘unfolding’, taking the form of scrolls, paintings, drawings and the recently released book ‘The Unfolding’ by Dr Roös. Phillip’s background in ecological architecture shows that drawing is never far from his consciousness, and this is evident as we are ‘drawn’ into his mapping of the landscape. Lines meander, pigment blurs into pigment as rivers find their way through the landscape. We look closer and see some of the creations of the particular environment that the artist has lived in and become part of for a time. We follow trails of words written in situ in response to this immersion, this ‘oneness’ as he describes the experience of a mystic in the forest. Nature was often a partner in the painting process as the dampness of the forest floor or creek provided the absorption to release pigment in paper. Phillip’s work reminded me of some of the work and processes of painter John Wolseley (they were to meet for the first time after this exhibition), although Roös’ work represents more of a flow of consciousness to me , through the nature of the writing in the works. Studio works such as ‘Nature’s Design’ also featured in the exhibition. In this mixed media work we see a mandala form, cell like, with a flower as its nucleus. Life appears to emanate like bubbles from this form. All of nature seems to be latent within the cell through subtle shapes, bird forms in flight, and rivers of pigment flowing. Divine architecture finds expression in colour, calligraphic line and written word. Topography and aerial views merge. GAIA has a warrior in Phillip Roös. He has committed his skills as architect and artist to embrace divine architecture.

"We were recently fortunate enough to have Dr Phillip Roös's artwork, 'The Creek in the Otway Forest', showcased in the Art of the Minds Nature Immersion Exhibition. Displayed prominently at the entry of the exhibition, 'The Creek in the Otway Forest' immediately captured the attention of guests during the opening. The imagery, coupled with the use of diverse materials, drew admiration and sparked conversations among attendees. The scale of the piece added a sense of awe, making it an excellent introduction to the exhibition space. The impact extended beyond the exhibition itself. The subsequent webinar, where Dr Roös participated in a discussion on biophilia and mental health, garnered significant interest from diverse industries such as horticulture, art therapies, architecture, and students. The overwhelming post-webinar requests for recording attest to the resonance and relevance of Dr Roös's insights. Given the positive reception and the interdisciplinary appeal of his work, there is a clear desire for Dr Phillip Roös to be involved in our future festivals. His contribution transcended traditional boundaries, making a meaningful impact on individuals and communities alike. We eagerly anticipated witnessing more of Dr Roös's insightful and thought-provoking creations in the future." – Sarah Molnar Vice President Art of the Minds. (2023)
